Torex wins award of excellence at "The 7th Monodzukuri Nippon Grand Award"

Torex Semiconductor Ltd. (Tokyo Japan: President, Koji Shibamiya, 6616: 2nd section at Tokyo Stock Exchange) has won the Excellence Prize in the product and technology category at the 7th Monodzukuri Nippon Grand Award organized by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry to recognize those who have overcome difficult technical challenges to achieve development and practical application of ground-breaking products, parts or materials at an extremely high level.


The XC9265 series, which won this award and which was developed by Torex Semiconductor Ltd., has achieved a quiescent current of 0.5μA in addition to lowering the quiescent current of the IC itself to about 1/30th of our conventional products through the development of a new low consumption circuit. Many customers require our technical skills to be able to handle the longer life and downsizing of equipped batteries with high power conversion efficiency left as a result from light loads to heavy loads as shown in Fig. 1. In addition, this will also greatly contribute to the development of industrial and electronic equipment in the future. This point was highly rated.


Currently, the longer life and downsizing of batteries are especially matters of the highest priority in IoT equipment, wearable devices and smart meters. The quiescent of current DC/DC converters greatly affects the battery operating time or size. (This is because electronic and electrical equipment has a long standby time (long light load conditions).) Nevertheless, the XC9265 series has a low quiescent current. Therefore, the battery operating time can be approximately 2.5-times longer or the battery can be reduced approximately 60% compared to our conventional DC/DC converter products under specific conditions. We use an ultra-small (1.8 x 2.0 x h 0.4mm) USP-6EL in the XC9265 series package. This makes it possible to save space in the IC mounting area.
