Power saving Push Button Load switch(1/4)

Product Overview

The XC6192 Series is a series of push button load switches equipped with optimal functions for operations related to batteries.

The built-in high-side switch can be turned ON using the push button (it can also be turned OFF in this way with Type XC6192A), and can be turned OFF by means of a signal sent from the MCU or other sources to the SHDN terminal. It is also equipped with other functions such as an output capacitor inrush current limiting function and an output short-circuit protection function, allowing it to function as an intelligent load switch.

By inputting an “L” signal from the push button which has been mounted in a device to the SW terminal, the high-side switch can be put into a Turn-On state which will be maintained. It can be put it into a Turn-Off state by inputting 1 pulse of an “H” level from the MCU or other sources to the SHDN terminal. This makes it possible to easily function as a main switch for the main power supply of a battery-driven device.

During shutdown, the leakage current will be suppressed to the extremely low level of 10 nA (Typ.), making it not only effective in main power switch applications, but also useful in minimizing battery discharge during long periods of storage after device shipment.

Type A products can be forced into an OFF state in emergency situations, by pressing and holding down the push button. This makes it possible to turn a device OFF in situations such as when it has frozen and become unresponsive. Type B products can only be turned OFF using the SHDN terminal.

The output capacitor inrush current limiting function suppresses excessive current generated when the switch is turned ON, preventing the occurrence of brownouts.

The output short-circuit protection function can detect voltage drops caused by load short-circuits and will force the power supply line into an OFF state. This condition can be reset by sending an “L” signal to the SW terminal by means of the push button.

The power-good function can be used to properly adjust the timing for turning DC-DC regulators or other systems at later stages ON.

Product Features

  1. Using the push button and XC6192 installed in a device, an ON/OFF switch for the main power supply can be constructed in minimal space. The product is equipped with an output capacitor inrush current limiting function, output short-circuit protection function, and power-good function, making it possible to function as an intelligent ON/OFF switch.
  2. Turning the main power supply OFF during shipment or storage of battery-equipped devices can contribute to power saving measures.
  3. The power supply can be turned OFF using the push button, making it possible to force resets in the event of system freezes or other such occurrences (only Type A).
  4. Inputting an “L” signal using the push button will operate a Turn-On Counter or Turn-Off Counter. The push button signals can then be allocated to systems other than power ON/OFF until the count is concluded.
